Itinerary
Day 1: Travel from Kampala through Mabira Forest to Jinja City
After your very early breakfast leave from Kampala and drive along Jinja road through Mabira forest to Jinja city. Plan an early lunch, do a boat cruise to the source of the Nile. The drive gives you views of changing landscape and economic developments. Make a stopover in Mukono Town for refreshments and bathroom break and proceed to Ssezibwa falls. The site guide is eager and more than willing to take you through the cultural significance of this site to the Buganda kings and the Baganda culture at large. Enjoy the scenic view of the new Nile Bridge. Book into any accommodation site of your own choice in Jinja. Overnight stay in Jinja.
Day 2: The shrine of Nabamba Budhagali - Cultural Research Centre Museum
Have breakfast early in the morning and visit Nabamba Shrine to learn about the cultural beliefs and traditions from Busoga region then proceed to Busowoko falls. The waters at the site are believed to have spiritual powers and some believers visit the site to seek blessings and healing.
In the afternoon have lunch in Jinja City, the city has plenty of places offering delicious fare at friendly rates whether you want a continental meal, local cuisine or just fast food. After lunch drop in at the Cultural Research Centre Museum you will get an opportunity to explore the traditional Kisoga culture and heritage through the collections and exhibitions.
Day 3: Kyabazinga Palaces, Mpumudde Hill and Budhumbula Palace
Early in the morning visit Kyabazinga Palace at Igenge Hill then proceed to Mpumudde Hill this hill is an important cultural site in Busoga, it is the coronation site for the Kyabazinga of Busoga. Enjoy your lunch then proceed to visit Budhumbula Palace the official palace of traditional hereditary chiefs of Busoga from the Gabula lineage. Spend a night in Kamuli District.
Day 4: Bishop Hannington Shrine and Kigulu Cultural Museum
After breakfast, set off to visit Bishop Hannington Shrine in Kyando. This is the place where the bishop was killed on orders of the Luba chief, the then Head of Busoga chiefdom.
In the afternoon visit Kigulu Cultural Museum, the museum offers an opportunity to explore Busoga cultural heritage through story telling, exhibitions, education and research, cultural dances. Spend a night in Iganga or proceed to Mbale.
Day 5: Inzu Ya Masaaba - Emutoto - Bayudaya Community
In Mbale, visit In zu Va Masaaba, the official administrative seat, located a few kilometers from the city center. Currently under the leadership of Umukuuka III Wagabyalire Amram John. Then proceed to Mutoto the official compound of the lmbalu ceremony.
In the afternoon discover the legend of Semei Kakungulu the founding conservationist and environmentalist. Visit his burial grounds and hear captiving stories about his life then later visit the Stern Synagogue, the sanctuary for the Jewish community he founded.
Day 6: Nyero Rock Paintngs
Early in the morning travel to Kumi District to visit Nyero Rock Paintings, these are one of the most famous paintings in the country, due to their captivating beauty of the red geometric motifs.
Day 7: Head back to Kampala
Transfer back to Kampala with stopovers at fresh food markets.
