Kabaka’s Palace, also known as Lubiri, is the official residence of the Kabaka (King) of Buganda, one of Uganda’s most prominent and historical kingdoms. Kabaka’s Palcace is located on Mengo Hill in Kampala, the palace has a rich history that dates back to the late 19th century.

The palace was constructed in 1885 by Kabaka Mwanga II, who succeeded his father, Kabaka Muteesa I, in 1884. Mwanga II chose Mengo Hill for its strategic location and its significance to the Buganda Kingdom. The hill was previously known as Nkaawo Hill, where members of the Nvubu clan kept their grinding stones (Emmengo). Mwanga II admired this hill and decided to build his palace there, renaming it Mengo Hill.
