Uganda Airlines is soaring to new heights with the announcement of direct flights between Entebbe International Airport and London Gatwick Airport. This groundbreaking route, set to launch on May 18, 2025, marks a significant milestone for the national carrier and the East African nation.
Uganda Airlines will operate four weekly flights to London using its state-of-the-art Airbus A330-800neo aircraft, offering passengers a premium travel experience across Economy, Premium Economy, and Business Class cabins. This new service not only reduces travel time between Uganda and the United Kingdom but also strengthens trade, tourism, and cultural ties between the two nations.
Jenifer Bamuturaki, CEO of Uganda Airlines, expressed her excitement about the milestone, stating, “This route marks the end of our establishment phase and sets us on a course for long-term growth and expansion. It re-establishes a direct air link between Entebbe and the United Kingdom after nearly a decade.”
The direct connection is expected to benefit Uganda’s export sector, providing a more efficient pathway for fresh agricultural products destined for the United Kingdom market. Additionally, British tourists will now have easier access to Uganda’s breathtaking landscapes, diverse wildlife, and rich cultural heritage, enhancing visitor arrivals to the “Pearl of Africa.”
Mr. Adedayo Olwawuyi, Chief Commercial Officer Uganda Airlines said that the he launch of a direct new route to London will shorten the journey from 16 hours to just 9 hours and that they are sure that it will enhance our trade, education and tourism opportunities.
