With Entebbe Town emerging as a hub for such high-profile gatherings, the workshop also underscored the town’s appeal as a destination for business travelers and policymakers alike.

The workshop saw participation from prominent Uganda travel sector figures, including Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA’s) Deputy Director General, Ms. Olive B. Lumonya, who has been at the helm of the authority since November 2021.

Joining her were Ms. Ester Nekambi, Executive Director of the Uganda Flowers Exporters Association, and Mr. William Tibyasa, chief executive officer (CEO) of the Uganda Fish Processors and Exporters Association.

Representatives from airline companies in Uganda, ground handling agencies, the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF), Uganda Free Zones (UFZ), and the Export Promotions Authority also attended, reflecting a united effort to address export bottlenecks.

Uganda’s agricultural sector, which accounts for 24% of the East Africa country’s GDP and 35% of its export earnings, was a central focus of the discussions.

Uganda is a leading exporter of coffee, flowers, and fish, but faces challenges such as a 46% decline in fish exports—from 17,541 tonnes valued at Shs392 billion in 2019, according to the Bank of Uganda’s (BOU) 2020 report—along with issues like poor post-harvest handling, limited storage facilities, and stringent international sanitary standards.

The workshop event in Entebbe aimed to foster collaboration between aviation, logistics, and agricultural stakeholders to streamline processes and enhance Uganda’s competitiveness in global markets, particularly for high-value products like flowers and fish.

Protea Hotel’s proximity to the Entebbe airport and its picturesque views of Lake Victoria (Africa’s largest fresh water lake) make this property a standout choice for visitors to Entebbe, a town increasingly known for hosting significant regional events.

Attendees like Tumusiime Jim, who shared his enthusiasm on X, described the workshop as “a great experience, very insightful,” expressing optimism for Uganda’s export future.

The event also highlighted sectors like Hortifresh (fruits and vegetables exporters), signaling a broad-based approach to tackling export challenges.

For travelers and investors, this gathering positions Entebbe as a key destination for engaging with Uganda’s economic ambitions, blending business opportunities with the natural beauty of Lake Victoria‘s shores.

As Uganda continues to leverage its strategic location and agricultural wealth in East Africa region, events like this workshop at Protea Hotel Entebbe are a testament to the country’s determination to soar in global trade—making it a compelling story for travelers interested in the intersection of business, culture, and natural beauty in East Africa.
