KCB Bank Uganda, in partnership with ICEA Lion Uganda (Insurance Company of East Africa), Kenya Airways, and Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa, officially launched the Uganda leg of the KCB East Africa Golf Tournament on the 13th June, 2025 at the stunning Serena Kigo.
The event, set for June 28th, 2025, marks a significant moment in the region’s golfing calendar, blending competitive sport with a strong commitment to sustainability under the theme “Roar on the Green.”
The launch event saw participants taking practice swings against a vibrant backdrop featuring the event’s slogan, with some playfully engaging in putting challenges.

KCB Executive Director Agnes Mayanja emphasized the bank’s dedication to both golf and environmental responsibility, announcing plans to plant over 300 trees at the venue as part of their sustainability efforts.
“This isn’t just about golf, it’s about growing a greener future together,” Mayanja stated during her address.
The tournament offers more than just a day on the greens. Winners of the Uganda leg will earn a coveted spot at the East Africa Golf Tournament Finale in December 2025, where past events have showcased significant prizes.
For instance, the 2024 finale at Sigona Golf Club in Kenya saw winners take home Kshs. 1 million and a chance to compete in the prestigious Magical Kenya Ladies Open in 2025, a world-recognized women’s professional championship in East Africa.
Partners echoed KCB’s vision for the event. Daniel Kairu, Head of Business Development and Marketing at ICEA Lion Uganda (Insurance Company of East Africa), highlighted their commitment to supporting sport and sustainability, while Felix Mwangangi, Country Manager for Kenya Airways, announced an exciting incentive: two free plane tickets to a destination of the winners’ choice.
“Wherever KCB is, Kenya Airways is here,” Mwangangi said, underscoring their role in fostering regional connectivity through sport.

The event also builds on a growing trend of sustainable practices in golf tournaments globally. Web insights from the GEO Foundation (Golf Environment Organization) for Sustainable Golf highlight initiatives like the European Tour Green Drive and The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews’ (R&A) commitment to hosting The Open at GEO Certified venues.
Kenya Commercial Bank’s tree-planting initiative aligns with these global efforts, positioning the East Africa Golf Tournament as a leader in environmentally conscious sporting events in the region.
Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa in Uganda, with its Mediterranean-inspired architecture and championship PGA golf course (Professional Golfers’ Association), provides a picturesque setting for the tournament.
Described as a “Tuscan hillside village” overlooking Africa’s largest lake, the venue promises a challenging yet scenic experience for players of all skill levels.
The KCB East Africa Golf Tournament also has a history of attracting diverse talent.
Previous tournaments, like the 2023 Kenya Day Golf event at Uganda Golf Club, saw winners such as Godwin Murungi and Hisae Koshiba claim top prizes, with sponsorship from regional giants like Kenya Airways and ICEA Lion (Insurance Company of East Africa).
This year’s Uganda leg is expected to draw similar attention, offering a platform for both seasoned golfers and emerging talents to shine.

As the countdown to June 28TH goes on, KCB Bank Uganda encourages golf enthusiasts to stay tuned for registration details and secure their spot on the green. With its blend of competition, sustainability, and regional collaboration, the KCB East Africa Golf Tournament is set to be an unforgettable event, roaring into action for a better future.
