Temperatures remain moderate year-round, with daily averages ranging from a minimum of 7–15°C (45–59°F) to a maximum of 20-27°C (68–81°F).

Nights and early mornings are noticeably cooler, often requiring layers, while daytime conditions feel mild during sunny periods.

The reserve receives annual rainfall of 1,400–1,900 mm, distributed across two wet seasons and two drier periods.

Rainfall Seasons

Dry Seasons(June–August and December–February): These periods feature lower rainfall, firmer trails, reduced mud, and clearer visibility through the forest canopy and Muchuya Swamp. Conditions support comfortable guided birdwatching, nature walks, and photography.

Wet Seasons (March–May and September–November): Higher rainfall occurs, with peaks in April and October–November, leading to lush vegetation, greener landscapes, and potential for intra-African migrant birds. Trails may be wetter and more slippery, but visits remain possible with proper preparation.

The equatorial location combined with high altitude keeps humidity elevated and mist common, especially in mornings, regardless of season. Weather can change quickly, so flexible planning benefits all visits.
