Miss Tourism Uganda has officially kicked off the Explore Ankole campaign, a fresh government-backed initiative designed to put southwestern Uganda’s Ankole region firmly on the travel map.
Launched on 10th March 2026, the campaign celebrates Ankole as the true “Land of Milk and Honey”, a title earned from its abundant dairy production and wild honey sources.

The Ankole region, nestled in southwestern Uganda, is now ready for the spotlight with its rich cultural heritage, iconic longhorn cattle farms, restored Mugaba Palace, rolling savanna landscapes and authentic Bahima traditions.
The Ministry of Tourism in Uganda aims to diversify Uganda’s tourism offering beyond the usual gorilla and wildlife safaris, giving both local and international visitors compelling new reasons to explore this underrepresented gem.
What’s Happening Right Now in Ankole
Since the launch, social media has been buzzing with excitement around farm visits, cultural experiences and the upcoming Mbarara City Marathon scheduled for 28th March 2026.
Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) bus tours are already running, making it easy for travellers to reach these hidden highlights without the hassle of self-driving.
Easy Park Tours from Kampala or Entebbe
Getting to Ankole has never been simpler. Several operators now offer comfortable park tours from Kampala or Entebbe that combine wildlife viewing in nearby protected areas with cultural stops in the Ankole heartland.
Day trips and multi-day packages include guided visits to longhorn cattle farms, the Mugaba Palace and savanna viewpoints – all departing directly from Kampala or Entebbe airports and major hotels.

Why Responsible Tourism Matters Here
Ankole’s tourism growth is being shaped with sustainability at its core. Community-led experiences, farm-to-table honey tastings and low-impact visits to the palace ensure that local families benefit directly while the environment stays protected.
