In a constructive high-level meeting at the Parliament of Uganda, stakeholders have agreed to host a national Tourism Week in February 2027.
The session was chaired by Deputy Speaker of Parliament Hon. Thomas Tayebwa and brought together key voices from both government and the tourism private sector.
Prominent attendees included former Speaker Hon. Rebecca Kadaga (who had earlier opened doors for such collaboration), Hon. Adolf Mwesige Kasaija, Hon. Acon Julius (a two-time Olympian and MP for Atuke East), and Mr. Demo Riley, President of the National Tourism Events Organizers Federation (NTEO).
Tourism operator and Rwenzori Marathon team leader Amos Wekesa also participated and later shared details of the discussions.

Key agreements from the meeting include:
- Encouraging every Member of Parliament to capture and share content showcasing the unique attractions of their constituencies.
- Playing a two-minute promotional video about a different constituency each week before parliamentary sessions begin.
- Mobilizing Members of Parliament to attend and support the Rwenzori Marathon so they can witness first-hand how well-organized events generate income for local communities.
- Inviting expert speakers during Tourism Week to highlight Uganda’s natural beauty and practical ways to harness it for sustainable economic growth.
These steps aim to raise the profile of Uganda’s diverse tourism offerings, from gorilla and chimpanzee tracking to mountain hiking, cultural experiences, and wildlife safaris, while creating more opportunities for citizens to benefit directly from the industry.
The initiative builds on existing efforts by operators and event organizers who continue to push for stronger public-private partnerships.

By embedding tourism messaging into parliamentary routines and encouraging grassroots content creation, the plan seeks to make Uganda’s destinations more visible both domestically and internationally.
As preparations for Tourism Week 2027 begin, the focus remains on practical actions that can translate Uganda’s exceptional biodiversity and cultural richness into lasting jobs, community income, and conservation support.
