Itinerary
Day One: Kampala – Queen Elizabeth National Park
Tour begins at 06:30 at your hotel in Kampala. Our professional guide-drive will meet you at 06:30 hours at the hotel to go over the details of the tour providing a schedule and pick-up times for all included activities. Your guide will also answer any burning questions that you may have, can also assist with booking optional activities and endeavor to assist you get the very best time of your tour.
Drive West, with a stopover at the Equator for photos and head further West. Stop in Mbarara for lunch at a local restaurant on the road. After pass through volcanic formations of the Western Rift Valley towards Queen Elizabeth National Park. The descent reveals a stunning panorama of Lakes George and Edward amidst game-filled plains. In the evening, enjoy a game-drive, before retiring at your preferred lodge. Dinner and overnight at your accommodation.
Day Two: Safari Game Drive and Boat Cruise Queen Elizabeth National Park
A morning game-drive today. After an early breakfast, you go for a long game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park. The park's diverse eco-system of grassy plains, tropical forest, rivers, swamps, lakes and volcanic craters is home to an incredible abundance of wildlife. Game drives in this park, with the massive Rwenzori Mountains as a backdrop, provide excellent opportunities to see lion, leopard, giant forest hog, Cape buffalo, elephants, De fassa waterbuck, Uganda Kob, Topi and bush buck. Enjoy lunch inside the park. After lunch, you will take a boat safari. The cruise is along the Kazinga Channel a wide, 32 km long natural channel that connects Lake Edward and Lake George, and a dominant feature of Queen Elizabeth National Park, and back at the waterfront jetty at Mweya.
The afternoon boat-cruise offers an excellent platform for photography and game viewing. The birdlife is colorful and abundant. An average of 60 bird species can be spotted during the trip, and one of the largest populations of hippos in the region as well as Nile crocodiles.
Carrying up to 40 passengers, the boats guarantee a seat with a view, while experienced ranger guides narrate stories of the wildlife and local history of the area.
Launch trips on the Kazinga Channel last two hours. Enjoy a sundowner while admiring the view. After the boat-safari you drive back to the lodge with the hope that the cooler evening hours will tempt a leopard or lion to cross your path before a dinner.
Day Three: Chimp Trek in Kyambura Gorge & Return to Kampala
This morning, after breakfast track Chimpanzees in Kyambura gorge. (Picnic breakfast).
The stunning Kyambura (or Chambura) Gorge also called the “Valley of Apes” is located in the far Eastern corner of the Queen Elizabeth National Park. Approximately 1 km across – at its broadest point and about 100 meters deep, this gorge is actually drained by River Kyambura. The landscape is among the most impressive you will find in Uganda and it is swarmed a rich wildlife bio-diversity that comprises of primates, wild animals as well as birds. However, basing on reports made by researchers, only sixteen chimpanzees are remaining within this distant yet very impressive valley.
This gorge can best be explored on foot so taking a nature walk guided by an experienced tour guide/ranger, will unveil to visitors the natural beauty of the gorge as well as the flora and fauna within the depths of the gorge.
There are 3 salty crater lakes, that attract a huge numbers of the beautiful flamingos which numbers are not seen elsewhere in the whole of Uganda.
After the chimp trek, drive back to Kampala through the park. We stop along the way at the Queen´s Pavilion, a community-run internet café. It´s also a great place to come for souvenirs – the Centre has a selection of locally made handicrafts including handwoven baskets and paper bead jewellery. Carry extra cash for craft purchases.
Continue our drive to Kampala via Kasese and Fort-portal with lunch en-route.
Your guide will drop off at your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe.
