The Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre (UWEC), fondly known as Entebbe Zoo, celebrated Easter Monday with a heartfelt donation from the Alam Foundation. On April 21, 2025, the Alam foundation delivered a vibrant bounty of fresh fruits, vegetables, and tubers to support the zoo’s rescued animals, many of whom are endangered species native to Uganda.

The donation, which ensures the animals receive nutritionally appropriate meals, aligns with Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre’s mission to rehabilitate wildlife affected by the bush meat trade, habitat destruction, and illegal trade. Located just a 10-minute drive from Entebbe International Airport on the shores of Lake Victoria, the zoo has been a sanctuary for confiscated and injured animals since its origins as an animal orphanage in the 1950s.
The Alam Foundation’s contribution highlights a growing global focus on animal welfare, though such initiatives remain underfunded, often receiving less than 1% of charitable donations, according to the Effective Altruism Animal Welfare Fund.
