Association Uganda Tour Operators – AUTO announces new board

Uganda’s Association of Tour Operators (Association of Uganda Tour Operators – AUTO), elected a new executive board that will serve for the period 2020 – 2022.

Association of Uganda Tour Operators brings together registered and professional tour firms dealing in tours, activities and safari booking in Uganda.

Ms. Civy Tumusiime of Acacia Safaris was elected the new Board Chair of the Association of Uganda Tour Operators at the association’s annual general meeting held in Kampala.

Ms. Tumusiime beat Mr. Bonifence Byamukama of Kitandara Tours and Lodges, and Ms. Eugenie-Windt Nsubuga of Swan Air Travel in a hotly contested race during the Assoctaion of Uganda Tour Operator’s annual general meeting (AGM) polling 162 votes, while Eugenie-Windt Nsubuga and Bonifence Byamukama managed to poll 64 and 14 votes respectively.

The 2020 AUTO Annual General Meeting was held at Hotel Africana in Kampala, Uganda’s capital and business centre,  on December 9th 2020.

Ms. Tumusiime will be deputized by Tony Grace Mulinde C.E.O of Speke Uganda Holidays.

 

Mr. Herbert Byaruhanga C.E.O of Bird Uganda Safaris was voted Association of Uganda Tour Operators Board Secretary while Mr. Begumisa Wilbur of Africa Adventure Safaris will serve as Treasurer.

 

Other newly appointed AUTO members include Robert Mugabe of Africa Adventure Travelers, Marinka Sanc George of Let’s Go Travel and Yvonne Hilgendorf of Manya Africa Tours.

 

In her inauguration speech as the Chairperson of Association of Uganda Tour Operators, Ms. Civy Tumusiime among others promised to lobby Government of Uganda for tourism sector incentives and negotiate lower interest rates with financial institutions as well as promote unity and synergies from within the membership to foster growth of the member companies.

Official data from Uganda’s Bureau of statistics’ shows the East African country welcomed 1.5 million visitors, earned USD 1.6 billion from tourism activities in 2018/19, contributed 7.7 per cent of the nation’s GDP and 6.7 per cent of total national employment after creating 667,600 direct jobs.
