Uganda’s Bwindi National Park was ranked number thirteen on TourScanner  on the list of the “100 Best National Parks in the World 2021

Located in south-western Uganda, Bwindi National Park is known for its biodiversity and it is one of the best forest national parks in the world.

There are more than 160 species of trees and over 100 varieties of fern. Visitors can expect to find different types of birds and endangered species, such as the incredible mountain gorilla.

The park spreads up to 321km2 and has an elevation of between 1,160 and 2,607 meters above sea level. Bwindi is Uganda’s most ancient and most biologically rich tropical rainforest.

Tourism is one of Uganda’s economic mainstays as the east African country attracts visitors to see a range of game including southern white leopard, lions, cheetah, giraffes, buffalos and others that roam its savannahs.

Others are drawn by the mountain gorillas and beautiful Golden Monkeys in forest in the southwest Uganda – Bwindi Impenetrable Gorilla National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park on the border with Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda.

Any one intending to do gorilla tours must therefore travel to any of the three countries to enjoy this memorable experience.

The main attraction in these Uganda national parks is the mountain gorillas. In fact, Bwindi Impenetrable Gorilla National Park was founded in 1990 and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in 1991 to protect the gorillas.

Mountain gorillas have been habituated (the process of training mountain gorillas to become used to tourists) into groups or families 20 in Uganda, 10 in Rwanda and 8 in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Each gorilla family is visited by a group of eight travelers for an hour.

Other than the chance to see mountain gorillas in their natural habitat in any of the two Uganda gorilla national parks, there are popular bird watching and community encounter opportunities.
