Entebbe Airport expands departures terminal

Uganda’s Entebbe International Airport has opened a new expanded departures terminal.

The new terminal at Entebbe airport can handle more than three million passengers annually, up from two million previously.

Boarding lounges have been reconfigured, with partitions removed to provide more space and seating areas.

Entebbe airport recorded 42 633 international passengers in November this year – an average of 1 676 passengers a day compared with the daily average of 1 375 passengers in October 2020.

The Entebbe International airport resumed commercial passenger flights on 01 October 2020 after seven months of inactivity due to COVID-19 travel restrictions. As part of responsible reopening of the East African country, Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) issued directives for resumption of international flights to and from Entebbe airport

Work is still in progress on the new arrivals terminal, which is set to open soon. According to Daniel Kiyimba, senior Civil Engineer with Uganda Civil Aviation Authority, “the first floor of the new terminal building extension at the Entebbe airport departure area will be completed by 30 December  2020.”

Since 01 October of this year, international airlines including Ethiopian, Emirates Airlines, Turkish, Rwanda Air, Qatar, Brussels Airlines, and Kenya Airways, as well as Royal Dutch (KLM) and Fly Dubai had resumed flights to Entebbe.
