According to the Director of Airports and Aviation Security for the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority short for UCAA, Al-Hajj Eng. Sooma Ayub, Phase 1 of passenger flights to Entebbe International Airport for the next 3 months will begin starting on October 1, 2020 to December 2020.

The Uganda Tourism Board is currently working on an evaluation by Safer Tourism Seal in preparation for getting ready to reopen their airports and the travel and tourism industry. Reopening of the Entebbe International Airport will further sustain East African country’s tourism and economy.

The Safer Tourism Seal, initiated by the Global Tourism Resilience and Crisis Management Centre (GTR&CM), is awarded to tourism destinations based on their own set of health and safety protocols. These are evaluated by independent tourism consultants – who have been certified by GTR&CM – across the globe.

Other East Africa region states including Tanzania, Kenya and Rwanda have also recently opened their airports to international flights.

However, health and safety concerns, negative travel advisories and quarantines imposed by countries of origin, have meant that international tourism numbers have remained low since the borders opened.

After reopening the country’s domestic tourism following 4 months lockdown, Uganda cities and towns hotels and those located in national park, nature reserves, started accepting booking with special discount and offers on long stay guests.
