Parkview Safari Lodge Public Relations Officer, Solomon Oleny, shared and wrote on his Facebook wall the following message about bush fire at their game lodge;
“On Friday 23rd July, Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) in Queen Elizabeth National Park lit up bush fire in the wildlife park, a practice they normally do during the dry season.
Without creating a buffer, and high winds spread the fire beyond the park into Parkview Safari Lodge.
15 guest cottages and the main restaurant building and office were burnt down to ashes.
We are now assessing the full extent of the damage.
At the same time, we are focusing on business continuity with the remaining 5 cottages in our high end section that was spared.
We would like to assure our clients that we shall overcome this tragedy, restart the business and rebuild to perfection.
This is not the first time a game lodge in the Queen Elizabeth National Park area has been burnt down as a result of reckless and uncontrolled bush burning by Uganda Wildlife Authority,
In 2012 wild fire destroyed several cottages at Kyambura Lodge in Queen Elizabeth National Park,
Solomon Oleny, condemns this practice and call upon Uganda Wildlife Authority to take responsibility.
More news on Fire at Parkview Safari Lodge, Kyambura will follow in preceding blog posts. Keep up to date with Travel and Hospitality News from Uganda. Check out our blog page here
