FlyUganda, a Kajjansi based airline on 2nd of November 2018, launched scheduled flights to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, home to half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas.
The flights are operated three times a week on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays.
Departs Kajjansi at 08h00 arriving Kihihi at 09h30.
Return flights will depart Kihihi at 10h00, arriving in Kajjansi at 11h30
The service routes from the Kajjansi airfield halfway between Kampala City and Entebbe Town in Wakiso District, to Kihihi in Kigezi Region, from where travelers are then collected – or dropped off for their return flight – and taken to the main park gate in Buhoma in which vicinity several safari lodges accommodate tourists.
“Initial flights will commence from Kajjansi to Kihihi and later expand to more destinations across the country, thought to include such highlights as Murchison Falls National Park and Kidepo Valley National Park.,” says Dorothy Kagaba Byenkya, Sales manager FlyUganda.
Scheduled flights to Bwindi follow the rise in tourist numbers across Uganda’s safari destinations.
The move comes with a goal of improving Uganda tourism experiences, starting with gorilla trekking. Given the heightened global interest in gorilla trekking it is crucial to make transport more efficient and convenient for global travelers.
According to World Wide Funs short for WWF, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, one of the most ecologically diverse forests in the world is also home to 400 of the world’s remaining 790 mountain Gorillas.
Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) one of the governing bodies that regulate wildlife conservation in Uganda processes over 1000 gorilla trekking permits to the Bwindi Impenetrable Gorilla National Park annually. The price of each permit is at USD 600 which is half the cost compared to Rwanda’s USD 1500.
The launch was commended as “a swift gateway to Ugandan destinations” by the key tourism stakeholders.
Scheduled flights will cost USD 236 one way per seat for Kajjansi – Kihihi and vice versa and bookings can directly be made via Responsible Tourism Company atleast 48 hours in advance.
