As the evening sky glows over Nairobi on August 12th, 2025, a new aviation corridor between Saudi Arabia and Kenya is poised to open.
Saudi low-cost carrier Flynas has confirmed the launch of a thrice-weekly service between Riyadh and Nairobi, starting October 2nd, 2025.
Supported by Saudi Arabia’s Air Connectivity Program (ACP), this expansion deepens Flynas’ footprint in East Africa, promising a boost to tourism, trade, and cultural exchange.
The Nairobi route joins Flynas’ expanding East African network, which already includes flights to Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), Dar es Salaam (Tanzania), and a newly announced service to Entebbe (Uganda), set to commence in November 2025.
These routes, serviced by Flynas’ fleet of 61 aircraft, including 25 Airbus A320neos, reflect the airline’s ambition to connect the Middle East with Africa’s dynamic markets.

With orders for 120 additional A320neo family planes (including a 2023 deal for 30 units), Flynas is poised to increase frequency and explore further destinations.
Nairobi-Riyadh Flight Timetable
The new service will operate three times weekly, with the following schedule effective from October 26, 2025 (winter season, per AeroRoutes):
Flight XY123: Departs Riyadh (RUH) at 02:00 AM (local time), arrives Nairobi (NBO) at 07:00 AM (EAT).
Flight XY124: Departs Nairobi (NBO) at 09:00 AM (EAT), arrives Riyadh (RUH) at 01:00 PM (local time).
Days of operation: Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
This timetable offers convenient morning arrivals, aligning with business and leisure travel, with flights operated by the fuel-efficient A320neo.
The Riyadh-Nairobi route is a boon for Kenya’s tourism and economy. Tourism, contributing 10% to GDP (per a 2019 Profor report), welcomed 1.5 million international visitors in 2024 (Kenya Tourism Board).
The anticipated influx of 50,000-70,000 Saudi tourists annually, drawn to Nairobi’s proximity to Mount Kilimanjaro, the Maasai Mara, and coastal beaches, could inject $50 million into the economy, per industry estimates.
Trade, already at $1.2 billion in 2024 (Saudi Embassy data), will benefit from enhanced business travel and exports like tea and flowers.
For Kenyans, affordable access to Saudi Arabia’s religious sites, including Mecca, supports a growing religious tourism sector.
What Passengers Can Expect
On the 5-hour, 30-minute flight, flynas offers a no-frills yet efficient experience. Passengers can expect:
Cabin and Seating: A320neo cabins feature a 3-3 seat configuration with 180-186 seats, offering basic comfort with adjustable headrests. Legroom is standard (around 30-32 inches), with extra-legroom seats available for a fee.
In-Flight Services: Complimentary water is provided; meals and entertainment are pay-per-use, typical of the low-cost model. Travelers should pre-book snacks or use personal devices, as Wi-Fi is unavailable.
Baggage: One personal item is free; checked baggage (up to 20kg) requires an additional fee, bookable online for savings.
Experience: The A320neo’s quiet cabin and modern design enhance comfort, though the lack of entertainment may challenge some. Check-in via Flynas’ app is streamlined, with boarding at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) efficient despite occasional delays. Expect stunning aerial views of the Horn of Africa.
While promising, the route faces challenges, including habitat loss affecting Kenya’s 7,000-strong elephant population (Kenya Wildlife Service, 2025), a key tourist draw.
Flynas’ fuel-efficient A320neos may reduce emissions, but sustainable tourism is essential. Success hinges on competitive fares (starting around $200 one-way) and marketing to offset seasonal dips.

As flynas gears up for its October 2nd launch, the Riyadh-Nairobi link, alongside new routes to Uganda and beyond, heralds a new era of connectivity.
With seven weeks to go, Kenya anticipates a tourism and trade surge, while travelers prepare for an affordable, efficient journey.
This route could elevate Kenya’s global standing, or test the limits of market saturation.
