On Thursday, 30th July 2026, organisers proudly unveiled the 3rd edition of the Gulu City Marathon at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel.
The media launch marked the official countdown to an unforgettable celebration of resilience, community spirit and athletic excellence set for Saturday, 5th December 2026 in Gulu City, northern Uganda.
Under the inspiring theme “Running for Culture and Heritage,” the event continues to transform perceptions of the Acholi sub-region, turning former conflict associations into a vibrant destination for sports tourism, culture and community development.

Race categories announced at the launch include:
- Full Marathon – 42 KM
- Half Marathon – 21 KM
- 10 KM Race
- 5 KM Fun Run
- Wheelchair Category
All races will start and finish at Kaunda Grounds in Gulu City, winding through historic neighbourhoods, key landmarks and the lively Gulu Central Market. Participants of all levels are welcome, with every finisher receiving a medal and commemorative T-shirt.

The event has grown rapidly, with the 2025 edition drawing more than 2,000 participants and earning World Athletics route certification.
