Located 2.3km from Mabamba Lodge, Mabamba bay wetland  is  home for many endemic water birds, hosting an average of close to 190,000 birds and is part of the wetland system which hosts approximately 38% of the global population of the Blue Swallow (Hirundo atrocaerulea), as well as the globally-threatened Papyrus Yellow Warbler Other species include; Goliath heron, Lesser Jacana, Orange weaver, Egret. 

Mabamba Wetland to date is the only wetland near Kampala that hosts the globally threatened shoebill. At 48km from Kampala, Mabamba Swamp is conveniently located allowing bird watchers & non-birders to spot many bird species (300 ),  acting as an ideal starting point for those after long safaris in Uganda.

The entry fee at Mabamba Lodge is UGX 10,000 per person, comes with a bottle of soda and continues to support the lodge mission, contributing to the maintenance of the gardens and promoting conservation of wildlife and plant life alike.

In march 2022, the Lake Victoria lodge planted 100 local bird friendly trees all thanks to those who keep supporting the lodge mission.
