KABAKA BIRTHDAY RUN SET FOR SUNDAY 07 APRIL 2019 IN MENGO- KAMPALA
The sixth edition of the Kabaka birthday run will take place on 7th April 2019 at Lubiri, Mengo and again the proceeds of the run will be geared towards the fight against sickle cell anemia.
The annual Kabaka Birthday run is meant to celebrate the Birthday of His Majesty Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II the Kabaka (King) of Buganda kingdom allowing runners and interested visitors the opportunity to explore Kampala City (Uganda’s Capital and Business Centre), keep fit as well as contribute towards corporate social responsibility (CSR) cause.
The Kabaka run is divided between 5km, 10km and 21km with target of 60,000 participants making it one of the biggest running events in Africa.
In his remarks at the launch on Wednesday 06 March 2019, the katikkiro (Premiere) of Buganda Kingdom, Owek Charles Peter Mayiga elaborated more about the meaning of celebrating the kabaka’s birthday where he said
“Life has no meaning unless you give attach value to it. We give special value to the birthday of the Kabaka because he is the custodian of our values and beliefs and his life means longevity of the heritage of Buganda kingdom. The Kabaka Birthday run therefore is a celebration of identity, history and a way of life. The two most important values in life are good health and not losing hope and here we are talking about creating awareness for sickle cell disease so come join us as we fight for our well being as Ugandans“.
