Kasubi Royal Tombs removed from UNESCO List of World Heritage in Danger

Kasubi Royal Tombs have been removed off the list of the endangered world heritage sites.

The announcement has been made in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia during UNESCO’s 45th session of the World Heritage Committee.

UNESCO was swift to post this news on its X account.

Buganda Kingdom’s Kasubi Royal Tombs is located in Kampala, Uganda.

The Tombs of Buganda King (Amasiro Ge Kasubi) Kasubi Tombs, built in 1882 by Kabaka Muteesa I, became a royal burial ground in 1884.

It’s the burial site for the 4 previous Kings (Ba Ssekabaka) of Buganda.

Kasubi Royal Tombs became a UNESCO World Heritage site in December 2001.

The tombs were destroyed by fire in 2010. The tombs have been going undergoing renovation since then and will be unveiled soon for tourists.

The announcement gives Buganda Kingdom green light to host both domestic and international tourists.
