Effective this Friday 22 February 2022, MV Kalangala the only public sailing vessel, plying the Entebbe-Kalangala Ssese route, will temporarily suspend operations to undergo annual mandatory docking inspection.
According to Mr Sadala Musoke, the chief executive officer, Nation Oil Distributors Ltd (NODL), a firm managing the MV Kalangala vessel, when MV Kalangala ferry sails to Kalangala on Buggala Island, Ssese Islands – Lake Victoria on Thursday 24th February 2022 evening and returns to Entebbe on Friday morning, it will not go back.
“MV Kalangala will effective Friday 25 February,2022 suspend its normal transportation services between Entebbe and Kalangala, for approximately a month to allow it have an engine overhaul as a mechanical prerequisite,” he said in an interview on Tuesday according to Daily Monitor – Uganda local daily paper and online news media.

Passengers plying the Entebbe-Kalangala route will have to turn to private vessels, and those carrying heavy cargo and vehicles, will end up connecting to Kalangala through Masaka – Bukakata – Bugoma route which is costly.

This implies that those with vehicles will have to travel by road to Masaka, which is about 170 kilometers to connect to Kalangala using either MV Pearl or MV Ssese, which dock at Bukakata landing site near Masaka, while in Buggala Island, the ferries dock at Bugoma landing site which is a 40 minutes drive to Kalangala Town .
MV Pearl and MV Ssese operated in the main Bugoma – Bukakata route will be used.
