Branding for scenery and mountain gorillas, Rwanda is holding tourism week targeted to boost tourism recovery & promote intra-Africa travel.
Running from 26th November to 3rd December 2022, the week-long event currently is carrying a banner and a theme of “Adopting Innovative Approaches to Boost Intra-Africa Travel as a drive for Tourism Business Recovery.”
Taking place at Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village (KCEV) and Kigali Convention Centre (KCC) in Rwandan capital, the Rwanda Tourism Week in part one of the strategies to boost the recovery of tourism then enable Rwanda tourist stakeholders to showcase their products and foster partnerships that would create more business opportunities.
The ongoing Rwanda Tourism Week will be displaying and exposing several tourism activities including Golf for Conservation event scheduled to connect the East African region’s elite businesses amongst the stakeholders.
A Restaurant Week is part of the ongoing promotional culinary event attracting the public to taste the best foods in a variety of cuisines at favorite restaurant at promotional rates.
About 17 selected restaurants are participating in the promotional campaign in Kigali, Frank Gisha Mugisha, the Director General of the Rwanda Chamber of Tourism said.
A special exhibition is scheduled from December 1 to December 3 to attract more than 200 local and continental tourism and hospitality operators.
Some of the highlights of the Rwanda Tourism Week include familiarization trips and excursions for international travel partners, regional tour operators, and travel bloggers visiting and tourism Rwanda National Parks such as Nyungwe Forest National Park, Akagera National Park regarded as Central Africa’s largest protected wetland and the last remaining refuge for savannah-adapted species in Rwanda.
Rwanda lost about US$10 million, or 10% of estimated revenues in 2020 after cancellation of about 20 conferences planned between March and April the same year due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Before wrapping up, this year’s Tourism Week will convene leading African business leaders in Kigali at a forum to share insights on different strategies which can enable tourism and travel to boost the local economy and encourage inclusivity and sustainability and reconnect tour operators, travel stakeholders within the African continent and beyond.
Roughly 2,000 local and international delegates are expected to attend.
The Executive Chairman of the African Tourism Board (ATB) is currently participating the Rwanda Tourism Week along with a section of members from the Board to promote Africa’s tourism in Rwanda.
Converging members from African Tourism Board will also contribute their ideas on the development of Intra-Africa Travel at this time of the year when thousands of families are expecting to travel within their respective countries and outside their countries for Christmas and New Year holidays.
