Itinerary
Day 1: Travel from Kampala to Jinja City
Set off early from Kampala to beat the jam. Take in the changing views along Jinja Road and drive to Mabira Forest, you can indulge in nature walk, bird watching, ziplining. No matter what your interests are, you will find something to excite you and enjoy about the beautiful forest. Mabira is a natural habitat for 312 species of trees, home of 315 species of birds, 218 butterfly species, 97 moth species and 23 small mammal species. Break for lunch in Jinja City and do a boat cruise at the source of the Nile with views of the Mahatma Gandhi and John Speke monuments and spend a night in Jinja City.
Day 2: White water rafting on the Nile River
If you are looking for thrilling adventure, go for white water rafting on the Nile River. After a comprehensive briefing about the activity you are free to enjoy a beautiful scenery, birds and the thundering rapids of the White Nile. Take time to recover from this exhilarating activity and spend a night in Jinja City.
Day 3: Mbale City – Busembatia Rice Growing and Selling Scheme – Bamasaba Culture
Travel to Mbale City and make a stopover at Iganga Town for refreshments and bathroom break at Total fuel station. Make another stopover at Busembatia rice growing and selling scheme and arrive in Mbale City in the early afternoon and do a cultural tour of Bamasaba culture. Visit the main compound where the Imbalu takes place every even year. Spend a night in Mbale City.
Day 4: Kapchorwa – Sipi Falls – Sabiny
Drive to Kapchorwa for a hike to the amazing Sipi Falls. Sipi Falls is a series of three water falls plunging along the lower slopes of Mt.Elgon. In the afternoon visit Mise cave to explore the cultural heritage of the Sabiny.
Day 5: Mount Elgon National Park
Do a nature walk in Mt. Elgon National Park. A full day walk will lead you to Budadiri and Budange cliffs known as the walls of death at the boundary of the park located in tropical forests. The are high chances of encountering blue monkeys, black and white Colubus monkeys and baboons. You will enjoy an African sunrise across the Karamoja plains. Remember to come with packed lunch, with enough safe drinking water, hiking shoes, first aid kit, and rain clothes, remember to have charged phones and cameras for photography. Meet the experienced park guides who will brief you and are ready to guide you through the trails of the mountain for a full day hike, there will also be potters that can help carry your luggage at a fee just in case it is heavy. Mt. Elgon National Park is run by Uganda Wildlife Authority.
Day 6: Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve
Travel to Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve. Spread on 2,788sq kilometres semi-arid land north of Mt Elgon, Pian Upe is one of Uganda's best kept secrets. Being under the care of Uganda Wildlife Authority, all activities have to be guided by UWA ranger guides. It is a true African wilderness with a few people but with rich wildlife Transfer to Pian Upe reserve. Morning and afternoon game drives around Pian Upe wildlife reserve where you will spot cheetahs, ostriches, antelopes, giraffes, roan antelopes, zebra, elands and birds.
Day 7: Kumi District – Nyero Rock Paintings
Early in the morning travel to Kumi district to visit Nyero Rock Paintings, these are one of the most famous paintings in the country, due to their captivating beauty of the red geometric motifs. Spend a night in Kumi District at any accommodation establishment of your choice.
Day 8: Travel back to Kampala
Transfer back home, remember to buy agricultural fresh produce on the food markets along the way.
