Itinerary
Day 1: Visit Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary
At 10:00am the team embarks on the journey to Nakasongola where the sanctuary is located, using the Kampala - Gulu highway. The spirit is high and the team is equipped with a camera ready to capture every fascinating moment. At two hours of driving, we take a break at Migyera to re-energize. In only 20 minutes we drive off and arrive one hour later. At 1:00pm we check in and prepare to have lunch at one of the restaurants. After lunch we utilize the services of the guides to lead us through the tour. This sanctuary is the only place in the country, where one can observe the Southern White Rhinos in the wild. Activities include: rhino trekking, night walks, nature walks and relaxation. The team stays overnight to enjoy an early morning canoe safari in search of one of the oldest birds in the nearby swamp, including the palm nut vultures, barbets, ross' turaco, speckled breasted woodpecker among others.
Day 2 & 3: Visit Murchison Falls National Park
At 9:00am we begin our journey, driving through the Southern route entry gate-Kichubanyobo which is only an hour away from our location. On arrival, we hire a game tour guide to take us to the best locations. Photo moments are evidently inevitable since the park has a lot to offer. the Game Park is home to over 76 mammals and 400 bird species. This park offers a variety of fauna such as giraffes, lions, heart beasts, elephants, hippos, crocodiles and buffaloes among others. Some of the primates to trek are; the blue tail monkeys, black and white coloobus monkeys, chimpanzees, olive baboons, and red tail monkeys. For a perfect birding experience, this is the place to be. At 6:00pm the team checks in at one of the park hotels.
Day 4: Visit Nakapiripit District
We now head to Nakapiripit in Karamoja sub-region. This journey will take around 8 hours via Bobi - Masindi, Gulu highway. We anticipate to make several stopovers in the areas of Karuma, Kamdini, Lira, Arapai for refreshments, stretch outs and washroom breaks. At 10:00am we begin the journey thereafter. On arrival we book the nearest hotel to spend a night. A night in Nakapiripit town will keep us refreshed and ready for the next day's expedition to Pian Upe Game Reserve.
Day 5: Visit Pian Upe Game Reserve
Pian Upe Wildlife reserve which is the second largest conservation protected area in Uganda is located in the Karamoja sub-region in the district of Nakapiripit in North - Eastern Uganda covering an area of 2043sqkm. The reserve cuts across a number of districts including Moroto, Katakwi, Amudat, Napak, Kumi, and Bulambuli among others. The park is known to inhabit some of the rarest species including impalas, giraffes, plain zebras, elands, cheetahs and Uganda's only surviving population of Roan antelopes, Mountain reedbucks among others. Primates include: olive baboons, vervet monkeys and patas monkeys. Guides are available and ready to serve tourists around and to provide some vital information regarding the reserve.
Day 6 & 7: Visit Kidepo Valley National Park
Our expedition to Kidepo - Karenga in Kaabong district beginsin the early hours of the morning. Driving through the Kotido - Moroto highway, we make our first stopover in the areas of Matheniko. As we approach a small town of Kakamari - Kotido, we make another stop before arriving at our destination at 2:00pm. The park offers exceptional wildlife such as; zebras, bush pigs, Rothschild giraffes, eland, Jackson's hartebeest, buffalo, oribi, lion, leopard, spotted hyena, black - backed and side - backed jackal. Kidepo is one of the best parks in Africa for great buffalo herds. Tourist accommodation at the park includes a rest camp run by the Uganda Wildlife Authority and other lodges.
Day 8: Return to Kampala
Our return journey to Kampala begins at 1:00pm. Using the Gulu - Kampala highway, we anticipate to arrive at around 10:00pm and in order to achieve this we shall limit stopovers to only three locations, Soroti road, Lira and Kamdini.
