Itinerary
Your driver guide will meet up with you at 6:30 am at your hotel in Kampala and you transfer to Mabamba Bay Wetland. After 2 hour ride, you will embark on a birdwatching tour with an experienced local guide. The wetland is one of the most interesting and spectacular sites for birding in Uganda. Over 215 bird species can be sighted on a one full day birding tour. Apart from Murchison Falls National Park, this is the only place and site where the elusive Shoebill can be spotted at any one time of the day. This tour offers you an opportunity to spot large congregations of migrants such as Blue Swallow, White-winged Tern, Gull-billed Tern and papyrus endemic bird species such as Papyrus Gonolek and Papyrus Yellow Warbler. Other species of interest include good numbers of Goliath Heron, Squacco Heron, Lesser Jacana, Spur-winged Goose and number of waders.
Thereafter you will transfer to Mpanga Forest Reserve for more birding as there is prolific birdlife. The 453 hectare forest reserve is best known for its 181 species of butterfly, while red-tailed monkeys can be spotted during the day and bushbabies during guided night walks.
Next, you will be driven for 40 minutes along Kampala – Masaka road, to reach the Equator monument, known as 'Uganda Equator'. We will drop in at a local restaurant for lunch. After lunch, you will head to the equator monument that spring up in equator-hopping destinations. Two cement circles mark the spot.
Take a picture on this iconic site and then take part in the water experiment. You will be amazed at what you see. Watch water go down a drain in a different direction only inches away from either side of the equator. The last part of the tour, you will browse the different craft shops for souvenirs and artwork.
After a fun-filled day, transfer back to your hotel in Kampala.
