Turkish Airlines Launches Direct Flights from Istanbul to Entebbe

Turkish Airlines recently announced the launch of direct, non-stop flights between Istanbul and Entebbe, set to commence in July 2025. This new route marks a significant milestone for Uganda’s aviation and tourism sectors, making Turkish Airlines the second airline to offer a direct European connection to Uganda, following Uganda Airlines’ – (Uganda National Airlines) London-Entebbe route which started May 18, 2025.

The move by Turkish Airlines is poised to enhance accessibility for international travelers eager to explore Uganda’s rich natural and cultural attractions.

The announcement follows a strategic meeting between Turkish Airlines’ Uganda country manager, Ali Ozdemir, and Amos Wekesa, a prominent Ugandan tourism advocate, at the Turkish Airline’s Uganda office. Mr. Wekesa shared the development on X, noting Turkish Airlines’ commitment to promoting Uganda as a premier travel destination.

Currently, Turkish Airlines operates flights to Entebbe (Uganda) via Kigali, Rwanda, but the new direct route from Entebbe will streamline travel, offering greater convenience for tourists and business travelers alike.

Turkish Airlines, which flies to 61 destinations across Africa, second only to Ethiopian Airlines, aims to deepen its footprint on the African continent with this initiative. The Istanbul based airline’s decision aligns with the airline’s broader strategy to connect more African countries to its global network, fostering tourism and economic ties.

During discussions, Ozdemir expressed enthusiasm for Uganda’s tourism potential, citing the country’s 165 lakes, diverse wildlife, and unique combination of mammals and primates as key attractions. He also highlighted opportunities for collaboration, including potential partnerships with events like the Rwenzori Marathon and featuring Uganda in the airline’s inflight magazine.

For travelers, the Entebbe to/from Istanbul direct flight opens up seamless access to Uganda’s renowned safari experiences, starting from Entebbe International Airport, the East Africa country’s primary gateway.
