Turkish Airlines recently announced the launch of direct, non-stop flights between Istanbul and Entebbe, set to commence in July 2025. Mr. Wekesa shared the development on X, noting Turkish Airlines’ commitment to promoting Uganda as a premier travel destination.
Currently, Turkish Airlines operates flights to Entebbe (Uganda) via Kigali, Rwanda, but the new direct route from Entebbe will streamline travel, offering greater convenience for tourists and business travelers alike.

Turkish Airlines, which flies to 61 destinations across Africa, second only to Ethiopian Airlines, aims to deepen its footprint on the African continent with this initiative. During discussions, Ozdemir expressed enthusiasm for Uganda’s tourism potential, citing the country’s 165 lakes, diverse wildlife, and unique combination of mammals and primates as key attractions. He also highlighted opportunities for collaboration, including potential partnerships with events like the Rwenzori Marathon and featuring Uganda in the airline’s inflight magazine.
