World Giraffe Day is marked on 21st June every year to highlight the plight of the world’s tallest land mammal which is on IUCN’s Red List of Threatened Species.
With increasing habitat loss due to human encroachment on their landscape and indiscriminate illegal activity, often targeting smaller animals but harming the giraffes as well nonetheless, their population numbers dropped drastically.
Thanks to targeted & concentrated conservation efforts, the numbers are recovering steadily.
Uganda Conservation Foundation work in Murchison Falls National Park over the years has contributed towards the recovery of the Rothschild Giraffe. The years has contributed towards the recovery of the Rothschild Giraffe.
Uganda now also has active programs to protect the giraffes in Kidepo Valley National Park.
Once as low as 200, the population of Rothschild Giraffe in Uganda is estimated to be well over 2,000, and if you visit the wildlife parks in Uganda, you will be sure to see plenty of them!
