The Uganda Ministry of Health announced has put in place screening mechanisms, including physical examination for flu like symptoms at Entebbe International Airport.
According to Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, the Minister of Health in Uganda, travelers to the East African country already being screened for elevated temperatures – indicating a viral infection – and for carrying a Yellow Fever inoculation certificate.
There are no reported cases of the new #coronavirus in the African continent, but controls are introduced following the spread of China’s latest Corononavirus outbreak to a number of foreign countries, including the US. Europe and Australia
Existing health check points will see additional staffing, particularly vigilant when flights originating from China arrive at Entebbe International airport, Uganda’s key airport.
In addition to the above, work underway to expand the health questionnaire travellers have to fill out with regard to visits in the immediate past to China and countries already named where the infection has spread to.
Uganda has over the past two years successfully defended against the Ebola outbreak in Eastern Congo and the measures introduced at both airports and land borders have so far proved to be sufficient to keep the disease at bay.
