Uganda Tourism Board Elevates Hospitality with New Phase of Accommodation Grading

In a vibrant push to enhance the quality of hospitality across the country, the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) has launched an exciting new phase of its grading and classification program for accommodation facilities.

This initiative, which runs until July 11th, 2025, focuses on establishments in Kampala, Wakiso, and Jinja, assigning star ratings from one to five based on quality, service, and amenities.

The program is a cornerstone of Uganda’s broader mission to position itself as a premier global tourism destination, showcasing the East African country’s rich cultural heritage, stunning landscapes, and warm hospitality.

The grading and classification process is designed to celebrate and elevate the standards of Uganda’s accommodation sector.

By assessing hotels, lodges, guesthouses, and other facilities, Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) aims to ensure that visitors experience consistent quality and exceptional service, whether they’re staying in the bustling capital of Kampala, the serene suburbs of Wakiso, or the scenic city of Jinja, nestled along the Nile River.

This initiative highlights the unique offerings of each region, from urban sophistication to tranquil retreats, catering to a diverse range of travelers.

For accommodation providers, the star-rating system offers an opportunity to shine. Facilities that meet the rigorous standards set by Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) will earn a prestigious rating, signaling to guests that they can expect a high level of comfort, cleanliness, and professionalism.

The process evaluates everything from room quality and dining options to staff training and sustainability practices, ensuring a holistic approach to hospitality excellence.

For travelers, this means greater confidence in choosing accommodations that align with their expectations, whether they seek budget-friendly options or luxurious escapes.

This phase of grading is more than just an evaluation, it is a celebration of Uganda’s growing tourism industry.

Kampala, with its vibrant markets and cultural landmarks like Kabaka’s Palace, Bulange Mengo, Butikkiro among others, offers a dynamic urban experience. Wakiso, with its lush surroundings and proximity to Lake Victoria, provides a peaceful retreat.

Jinja, known as the adventure capital of East Africa, attracts thrill-seekers with activities like white-water rafting and bungee jumping.

By focusing on these key regions, Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) is showcasing the diversity of experiences available to visitors while encouraging accommodation providers to elevate their offerings.

The initiative also fosters collaboration between Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), local businesses, and tourism stakeholders.

Training programs and workshops are being rolled out to support facility owners in meeting the required standards, ensuring that even smaller establishments can compete on a global stage.

This inclusive approach not only strengthens the tourism sector but also creates jobs and boosts local economies, particularly in areas like Jinja, where tourism is a major driver of growth.

As the program progresses, travelers can look forward to a more seamless and enjoyable experience when visiting Uganda.

Whether it’s a cozy guesthouse in Wakiso, a boutique hotel in Kampala, or a riverside lodge in Jinja, the star ratings will serve as a trusted guide for quality.

The Uganda Tourism Board’s commitment to excellence is paving the way for unforgettable adventures in the Pearl of Africa, inviting the world to discover its beauty and hospitality.

By the time the program wraps up on July 11th, 2025, Uganda’s accommodation sector will be better equipped to welcome visitors from across the globe, offering experiences that are as diverse and vibrant as the country itself.

This initiative is a bold step toward making Uganda a must-visit destination, where every stay is a celebration of quality and culture.
