Seven Wonders of Uganda

Uganda Tourism Board Launches Seven Wonders of Uganda with Kampala Hop-On-Hop-Off Bus Tours

In a vibrant push to boost domestic tourism, the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) has officially rolled out the Seven Wonders of Uganda, a citizen-driven initiative designed to celebrate the country’s rich heritage and encourage locals and visitors alike to explore with pride.

Led by Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) CEO Juliana Kagwa, the national launch highlights the power of community collaboration.

The project was developed in partnership with the Association of Tourism Entrepreneurs of Uganda (ATEIUg) and Brand Ambassadors 256.

The launch of the 7 wonders of Uganda forms a key part of the ongoing Explore Uganda campaign and is building strong momentum toward the highly anticipated Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo 2026.

Kampala’s Iconic Seven Wonders Now on Wheels

The highlight of the launch was the flag-off of the iconic Kampala Hop-On-Hop-Off double-decker buses.

These open-top buses now offer convenient, narrated tours of Kampala’s seven wonders, making it easier than ever for both residents and international travellers to discover the city’s most treasured sites:

  • Gaddafi Mosque: One of the largest mosques in East Africa
  • Kasubi Tombs: A UNESCO World Heritage Site and royal burial ground
  • Uganda Museum: The country’s oldest museum showcasing Uganda’s cultural history
  • Makerere University: Africa’s oldest university and a symbol of academic excellence
  • Baháʼí Temple: The striking lotus-shaped temple overlooking the city
  • Plus several hidden gems: Carefully selected by local ambassadors

The hop-on-hop-off format allows visitors to explore at their own pace, hopping off to dive deeper into each site before continuing the journey.

Why This Matters for Domestic Tourism

The Seven Wonders of Uganda initiative goes beyond sightseeing. The initiative aims to foster local pride, create economic opportunities for communities around each site, and promote inclusive travel experiences across all regions of the Pearl of Africa.

By encouraging Ugandans to explore their own country, the campaign is expected to drive sustainable growth in the tourism sector.
