The Rwenzori Marathon, set against the stunning backdrop of the Rwenzori Mountains in Kasese, Uganda, has gained international recognition, previously being named among the world’s top 30 half marathons by Outdoors Wire.

Wekesa’s talk will focus on tech synergies in global marathons, digital innovation in endurance sports, and sustainable tourism development—key trends shaping the future of travel. Mr. Wekesa’s recent high-profile engagements, including speaking at the Africa Tourism Investment Conference in Cape Town and featuring in a BBC piece, underscore his growing influence in the industry.

This event also marks a significant moment for the Ugandan diaspora in the Boston area, one of the largest in the United States of America, offering a chance to engage with Uganda’s tourism narrative. Other speakers, including Ron Kawamara and potentially Joshua Cheptegei, will join Wekesa to discuss the marathon’s impact on local communities and its role in promoting sustainable development in the region.

The global tourism industry is increasingly embracing technology, as seen in events like the Tourism Innovation Summit in Seville, which focuses on cutting-edge solutions to transform travel. Uganda’s participation in such discussions positions it as a leader in innovative, sustainable tourism in East Africa.
