Uganda, in partnership with the East African Community (EAC), has begun training the second cohort of East African Community (EAC) Hotel Assessors at the Hotel and Tourism Training College in Jinja City located in Eastern Uganda.
The programme, which runs until 4th December, brings together 30 professionals drawn from tourism, hospitality, architecture, public health, environmental management and other technical fields.

Participants will combine classroom learning with practical field assessments to develop the skills needed to evaluate accommodation establishments against the East African Community Classification Criteria.
This initiative expands Uganda’s pool of qualified assessors and strengthens national capacity for hotel grading, classification and compliance monitoring.
By equipping more experts to uphold recognised regional standards, the training programme helps accommodation providers maintain high levels of quality and safety.
In turn, this gives visitors greater confidence in the standards of hotels, lodges and other places to stay across the country, a key factor in building trust and enhancing the overall visitor experience.
Why This Matters for Tourism and Hospitality
Consistent, transparent classification systems are essential for a competitive and responsible tourism sector.
As Uganda continues to attract both regional and international travellers, well-trained assessors play a vital role in ensuring that accommodation meets clear benchmarks for safety, service, facilities and environmental management.
This not only supports industry professionalism but also reinforces Uganda’s reputation as a reliable and high-quality destination.
