Tourism MSMEs Finance Forum 2026: Unlocking Finance for Uganda’s Tourism Businesses

Today, stakeholders from across Uganda’s tourism sector gathered for the Tourism Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Finance Forum 2026.

The event brought together tourism enterprises, financial institutions, investors, government representatives, development partners and business support organisations.

Convened under the theme “Unlocking Finance for Uganda’s Tourism Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises: Building Investment-Ready Enterprises Through Partnerships and Innovation,” the forum focused on overcoming the financing barriers that continue to limit the establishment, expansion and modernisation of tourism businesses.

Why the Tourism Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Finance Forum 2026 Matters

Tourism remains one of Uganda’s most important economic sectors. In 2025, the tourism industry contributed USD 3.9 billion to the national economy and supported 984,200 jobs.

Improving access to affordable and appropriate finance is essential if the sector is to create more employment, raise service standards and strengthen Uganda’s competitiveness as a destination.

Many micro, small and medium enterprises in tourism face challenges in securing the capital needed to grow.

These include limited access to suitable loan products, high collateral requirements, and gaps in investment-readiness.

The Tourism Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Finance Forum 2026 sought practical solutions to these long-standing constraints.

Key Focus Areas for the Tourism Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Finance Forum 2026

Through panel discussions, financial institution pitches and the Tourism Finance Marketplace, participants in the forum explored:

  • Suitable financing products tailored to tourism businesses
  • Guarantee schemes that can reduce risk for lenders
  • Investment-readiness support and capacity building
  • Partnerships between enterprises, financiers and development partners

The event created a platform for direct engagement between tourism operators and potential funders, helping to bridge the gap between business needs and available financial solutions.
