Ahead of the 2020 festive holiday season, the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has announced a reduction in entrance fees for savannah national parks, ape and primate tracking permits and activity fees to encourage visitors tour the wildlife conservation areas. Uganda Gorilla trekking permits and chimpanzee tracking permits among other promotional tariffs reduced for the period 01 December 2020 till 01 March 2021.
The reduction on Uganda gorilla tracking permits and other Uganda national park and activity fees were introduced in order to encourage the recovery of the East African country’s tourist industry, which was largely shuttered by COVID-19
A letter signed off by Mr. Sam Mwandha, the Executive Director of Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) reads:
Our visitors are at the heart of our conservation efforts, and as we enter into this festive season, we are glad to be able to reward them for their continued support throughout the years and more especially through this period of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The following discounts have been offered with effect from 01 December 2020 to 31 March 2021:
50% Discount on Uganda Savannah Wildlife Parks entrance and Uganda Wildlife Reserve fees for;

Foreign Resident gorilla tracking permits reduced from USD 600 to USD 300
Foreign Non-Resident gorilla tracking permits reduced from USD 700 to USD 400
In Uganda, Chimpanzee Tracking takes place in Kibale National Park, Budongo Eco Tourism Site and Kaniyo Pabidi, Kyambura Gorge and Echuya Forest Reserve
East African Community resident chimpanzee tracking permits reduced from UGX150,000 ($40) to UGX100,000 ($28)
Foreign Resident chimpanzee tracking permits reduced from USD 150 to USD 100
Foreign Non-Resident chimpanzee tracking permits reduced from USD200 to USD150
The reduction on gorilla permit and chimp permit fees will only apply to purchases between 01 December 2020 and 31 March 2021and not on reschedules of already deposited on permits or purchases using credit letters.
No reschedules are allowed for these promotional permits.
The announcement comes at a time when the gorilla parks in Uganda are experiencing a baby boom, the latest being in the Ruhija-based Mukiza family (Bwindi Impenetrable National Park) on 11 October 2020 increasing their number to 15 strong.
