Despite the reported kidnap of an American national in Queen Elizabeth national park in the western part of Uganda, the situation is absolutely safe.

On Sunday 07 Apr 2019, Kimberly Sue Endicott and her Ugandan guide, Jean Paul Mirenge were freed unharmed from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), which borders the Queen Elizabeth National Park — the scene of their abduction during a game-watching drive Tuesday evening.

Kimberly had visited the east African country for her dream trip to go on an excursion to see mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. The jungle of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Western Uganda is the best place to spot the endemic / ENDEGERED Mountain Gorilla.

Reports of kidnap had sent a stress signal to tourists visiting Uganda, however most of the country’s popular spots are safe for travel.

Ugandan security forces rescued Endicott and the unfortunate incident is very isolated and a combined team of defence and security operatives, who include the Uganda People’s Defence Forces aka UPDF, the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence, Uganda Police anti-terrorism unit, etc are working to ensure that Uganda is safe for Ugandans and visitors.

Practical steps have been taken to seal all exit points that are proximate to the area where the incident occurred last week.

Visitors are assured that all the other national parks such as Murchison Falls, Kidepo Valley, Lake Mburo, Mount Elgon, Rwenzori Mountains, Bwindi Impenetrable and Mgahinga gorilla parks including Queen Elizabeth and the country as a whole remain very safe and peaceful.
