Entebbe International Airport Unveils the New Karibuni Business Lounge

Imagine stepping off a long flight, weary from travel, and being greeted by a serene oasis where comfort, productivity, and relaxation converge. That’s exactly what travelers can now experience at Entebbe International Airport, thanks to the newly launched Karibuni Business Lounge.

On July 4th, 2025, the Minister of Works and Transport, Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala, officially unveiled this state-of-the-art facility, marking a significant milestone in Uganda’s mission to elevate the passenger experience and solidify Entebbe’s reputation as a welcoming gateway to the Pearl of Africa.

The Karibuni Business Lounge, whose name means “welcome” in Swahili, lives up to its promise by offering a thoughtfully designed space that caters to the diverse needs of modern travelers.

Relocated to a more spacious and convenient spot within the airport’s international departures area, the lounge has doubled its seating capacity from 160 to 300 people, ensuring more passengers can enjoy its premium amenities.

Whether you’re a business traveler preparing for a meeting or a family seeking a comfortable spot to unwind, the lounge is crafted to make your time at Entebbe International Airport feel like a moment of respite.

What sets the Karibuni Lounge apart is its array of modern features, designed with both practicality and comfort in mind. Travelers can relax with high-speed Wi-Fi, perfect for catching up on emails or streaming entertainment.

For those needing a quiet space to work, a dedicated conference room provides a professional setting. Families will appreciate the baby changing rooms and an infant playroom, making travel with young children easier and more enjoyable.

The lounge also includes a prayer room, a designated smoking area, three supplementary massage chairs, a fully equipped kitchen, and a relaxation room, creating a tranquil environment that feels like a home away from home. And yes, there’s even free coffee to keep you refreshed!

The launch of the Karibuni Business Lounge is part of a broader vision to transform Entebbe International Airport into a world-class hub. Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala emphasized the importance of listening to travelers’ needs and exceeding their expectations.

“It is always important to understand and identify the needs of travellers and aim to surpass their expectations,” he said. “The new lounge will be a valuable addition to the airport’s ambience and enhance the passenger experience.”

The Minister also praised the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) and the lounge’s management for incorporating public feedback into the design, ensuring the facility meets the evolving demands of international travel.

Fred K. Bamwesigye, Uganda Civil Aviation Authority’s Director General, echoed this sentiment, noting that the lounge’s unveiling comes at a time of significant growth for the airport.

With 198,052 passengers recorded in May 2025 alone, averaging over 6,300 daily travelers, Entebbe is bustling with activity, and the expanded lounge is a timely addition to accommodate this surge.

The Karibuni Business Lounge is a testament to Uganda’s commitment to hospitality, reflecting the warmth and welcoming spirit the country is known for.

As Gen. Katumba Wamala highlighted, lounges like Karibuni play a vital role in offering premium services beyond what’s available in the main terminal, creating a comfortable and productive environment for travelers to work, rest, or prepare for their flights.

This focus on quality aligns with Uganda’s National Aviation Master Plan (2014–2033), which aims to position Entebbe as a competitive regional hub capable of handling 6.1 million passengers annually by 2033.

The lounge’s opening is just one part of Entebbe’s ambitious modernization efforts. With over $580 million invested since 2015, the airport is undergoing significant upgrades, including a new passenger terminal set to be commissioned soon, enhanced runway systems, and improved cargo handling facilities.

These developments are preparing Entebbe International Airport to welcome larger aircraft, like double-decker planes, and to meet international safety and operational standards ahead of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Coordinated Validation Mission in December 2025.

The Karibuni Lounge is a shining example of how these efforts are already enhancing the travel experience.

Whether you’re a frequent flyer, a tourist exploring Uganda’s gorilla-filled forests, or a business professional en route to a global destination, the Karibuni Business Lounge offers something for everyone.

The lounge’s 24-hour accessibility ensures travelers can enjoy its amenities at any time, with Priority Pass holders and walk-in guests welcome (at $15 for 2–3 hours, including drinks and snacks).

The lounge’s location near the boarding gates in the international departures hall makes it easy to find, just a short walk after customs, where a neon glow beckons you to relax.

For those seeking a premium experience, the lounge’s blend of modern amenities and Ugandan hospitality creates a space that feels both luxurious and authentic.

Picture yourself sinking into a massage chair, savoring a cup of local coffee, or catching up on work in a quiet corner with reliable Wi-Fi, all while surrounded by the natural aesthetics of water fountains and beautiful flora that echo Uganda’s lush landscapes.

The launch of the Karibuni Business Lounge marks a new chapter for Entebbe International Airport, one that celebrates comfort, connectivity, and care for travelers.

As Uganda continues to grow as a tourism and business hub, this facility is a warm invitation to experience the country’s hospitality from the moment you arrive. So, the next time you pass through Entebbe, make time to visit the Karibuni Lounge.
