Uganda Tourism Association Celebrates a Year of Impact at Annual General Meeting

On July 3rd, 2025, the Uganda Tourism Association (UTA) convened its Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the elegant Fairway Hotel, bringing together key stakeholders in Uganda’s vibrant tourism sector.

The event marked a significant milestone, celebrating one year of dynamic leadership under Uganda Tourism Association (UTA) President Yewagnesh Biriggwa and showcasing the association’s strides in advancing tourism across the country.

The meeting buzzed with enthusiasm as industry leaders, including Uganda Tourism Association (UTA) Board Chair Omuk. Benon Ntambi and Executive Director Omuk. Najib Ssekikubo, gathered to reflect on achievements and chart the path forward.

President Biriggwa’s address highlighted the transformative initiatives undertaken over the past year, emphasizing unity and innovation in elevating Uganda’s tourism profile. Her leadership has fostered collaboration among stakeholders, driving efforts to promote the country’s rich cultural heritage, stunning landscapes, and diverse wildlife.

In her remarks, the President reflected on a year of rebuilding Uganda Tourism Association (UTA) from scratch;   restoring governance, reviving the Secretariat, launching a 5-Year Strategic Plan and strengthening partnerships across the sector.

Key Achievements include:-

  • New Secretariat offices at Rwenzori House and great thanks to Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities and specially our Minister of Tourism the Rtd. Col Butime
  • Appointment of a CEO, Coordinator and an administrator
  • Developing a Strategic Plan (2025–2030) funded by Enabel
  • Expanded stakeholder engagement (GROW, Uganda Wildlife Authority, World Bank, Uganda Tourism Board & more)
  • Weekly Action Plan meetings driving consistent progress
  • Appointment of a Technical Advisor

The meeting served as a platform to review Uganda Tourism Association’s accomplishments, from advocating for sustainable tourism practices to strengthening partnerships that amplify Uganda’s appeal as a premier travel destination.

Attendees engaged in lively discussions, sharing insights on emerging trends and opportunities to enhance visitor experiences.

The event underscored Uganda Tourism Association’s commitment to fostering economic growth through tourism, creating opportunities for local communities, and showcasing Uganda’s unique offerings to the world.

The Annual General Meeting’s success at Fairway Hotel was a testament to the collective passion and dedication of Uganda’s tourism stakeholders.
