These include; Murchison Falls, Kidepo Valley, Queen Elizabeth and Lake Mburo National Parks with Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve.

The offer from Uganda Wildlife Authority is open to all Ugandans, East Africans ,and residents as we slide into the major World Tourism Day 2025 activities happening in Arua City, West Nile on 27th September 2025.

In a thrilling move to ignite passion for Uganda’s natural heritage, the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has officially launched the Open Park Days initiative, opening the gates of five spectacular savanna parks absolutely free from September 25th to 27th, 2025.

This exciting event promises Ugandans and East African residents an unforgettable opportunity to immerse themselves in the country’s breathtaking wildlife and landscapes, fostering a deeper connection to conservation and domestic tourism.

Under the visionary leadership of Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) Executive Director Dr. James Musinguzi, the initiative builds on the success of previous years by extending free access to Lake Mburo National Park, Kidepo Valley National Park, Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve, Murchison Falls National Park, and Queen Elizabeth National Park.

“This is more than just free entry, it is an invitation for every Ugandan to step into the heart of our nation’s treasures,” Dr. Musinguzi announced at the launch, highlighting how these parks showcase Uganda’s rich biodiversity and contribute to the economy through tourism.

The Open Park Days align seamlessly with the upcoming World Tourism Day celebrations (Checkout News Article) on September 27th, 2025, themed around cultural exchange and environmental stewardship.

Participants can enjoy complimentary game drives, guided tours, and photography sessions, all designed to create joyful, educational experiences that celebrate Uganda’s role as the “Pearl of Africa.”

As tourism plays a vital part in the nation’s growth, this event encourages families, friends, and adventure seekers to explore closer to home, supporting local communities and wildlife protection efforts.

Imagine starting your journey at Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest protected area spanning 3,893 square kilometers along the mighty Nile River.

Here, visitors can marvel at the explosive power of the falls, where the Nile River squeezes through a narrow gorge, while spotting elephants, hippos, giraffes, and over 450 bird species on guided boat cruises and game drives. This is a perfect blend of dramatic scenery and abundant wildlife that leaves every explorer inspired.

Heading south, Queen Elizabeth National Park offers a vibrant mosaic of savannas, wetlands, and forests, home to tree-climbing lions, playful chimpanzees in the Kyambura Gorge, and massive elephant herds.

Free access means more chances to witness the Kazinga Channel’s hippo pods and crocodiles up close, or join birdwatchers in spotting over 600 species, including the colorful African skimmer. This park’s diverse ecosystems make it a hub for eco-adventures that highlight Uganda’s commitment to biodiversity.

For a more intimate wildlife encounter, Lake Mburo National Park shines as an accessible gem just a few hours from Kampala. Known for its rolling hills, acacia woodlands, and Lake Mburo itself is the only Ugandan park with zebras, elands, and impalas roaming freely.

Visitors can opt for guided walking safaris, canoeing on the lake, or even cycling through the trails, ideal for weekend getaways that bring nature right to your doorstep.

Venture to the remote north for Kidepo Valley National Park, a rugged paradise in the Karamoja region featuring dramatic canyons, the Narus River Valley, and Ikarusikiria Hill for panoramic views.

Kidepo Valley National Park teems with lions, leopards, buffalo, and ostriches, offering serene game drives that reveal the untamed beauty of Uganda’s wilderness. It’s an excellent spot for those seeking solitude and authentic safari thrills amid golden grasslands.

Rounding out the lineup is Pian Upe Wildlife Reserve, a vast expanse of open plains and riverine forests in the cattle corridor, celebrated for its large antelope populations like kobs and reedbucks, alongside Nile buffalo and elusive leopards.

As one of Uganda’s lesser-visited gems, it provides a peaceful setting for wildlife viewing and cultural interactions with local communities, emphasizing the harmony between people and nature.

To participate, Ugandan citizens need only present their national ID, while East African residents should bring their resident permits.

Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has partnered with transport providers to offer buses from major cities, making it easier for everyone to join the fun.

Local tour operators are gearing up with special packages, ensuring safe and enriching visits. This initiative not only promotes health and well-being through outdoor exploration but also empowers young leaders like the newly appointed Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) Tourism Ambassador, Queen Karungi Bridget, who will champion these efforts through engaging campaigns.

As the dates approach, excitement is building across Uganda. Open Park Days is a golden opportunity to create lasting memories, learn about conservation, and discover why these parks are the lifeblood of the nation’s pride.

Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a returning enthusiast, mark your calendars for September 25th -27th and step into the wild, your adventure awaits, courtesy of Uganda Wildlife Authority’s heartfelt commitment to sharing Uganda’s splendor with all.

The Uganda’s Open Park Day initiative is set to offer free entry to five national parks (Queen Elizabeth, Murchison Falls, Kidepo Valley, Lake Mburo, and Pian Upe) from September 25th -27th, 2025, aligning with World Tourism Day 2025’s theme “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation,” which emphasizes tourism’s role in economic recovery and biodiversity conservation, supported by a 2023 United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) report showing domestic tourism contributed 40% to Uganda’s tourism revenue post-COVID.

This event follows a 2024 Open Park Days launch on October 17th -18th, indicating a strategic shift by the Uganda Wildlife Authority to boost local tourism, a response to a 60% revenue drop from 2019-2022 due to pandemics and travel advisories, as noted in Uganda Wildlife Authority ‘s 2024 economic impact assessment.
