This year’s global theme, “Medicinal and Aromatic Plants: Conserving Health, Heritage and Livelihoods,” perfectly aligns with Uganda’s rich biodiversity and cultural heritage.

The launch event, held recently, called on the public to actively participate in upcoming activities leading up to the main observance on March 3rd, 2026.

During the ceremony, the Minister emphasized the critical role of Uganda’s native plants in traditional medicine.According to World Health Organization (WHO) data, over 80% of Uganda’s population relies on these natural resources for healthcare.

This not only sustains health but also bolsters economic livelihoods for communities across the country.

However, threats like habitat loss and environmental degradation pose significant risks, making conservation efforts more urgent than ever.
