Entebbe International Airport Hits Record 2.49 Million Passengers in 2025

Entebbe International Airport has officially become the beating heart of Uganda’s tourism renaissance. In 2025 the airport handled a staggering 2.49 million international passengers, a jaw-dropping 340% increase from the 565,541 passengers recorded during the depths of the COVID-19 crisis in 2020.

The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) announced the milestone, crediting new regional routes and the powerful rebound in leisure travel.

Aircraft movements have remained steady at 22,000-23,000 per year, while overflights have grown an average of 4% annually, positioning Entebbe as a rising East African aviation hub.

Cargo figures tell another success story: total throughput has stabilised at around 65,000 tonnes, but Ugandan exports surged 12% above 2019 levels and now comfortably outpace imports, proof that Uganda’s fresh produce, coffee, and minerals are reaching global markets more efficiently than ever.

What Does This Mean for Travellers Planning Uganda Safaris?

More flights equals to more choices and often lower fares. Whether you’re flying in from Nairobi, Dubai, Addis Ababa, or Europe, stepping off the plane at Entebbe now puts you just minutes away from the action.

Kampala is only a 45-minute drive, making it easier than ever to begin your adventure the same day you land.
