About Nyege Nyege Festival

Founded in 2015 by Arlen Dilsizian and Derek Debru, Nyege Nyege takes its name from the Luganda word ekinyegenyege which means the irresistible urge to dance.

The Nyege Nyege Festival is closely linked to the Nyege Nyege Tapes and Hakuna Kulala labels, which have helped launch East African artists for example Kampire, MC Yallah, Slikback and Catu Diosis among others onto international stages.

Beyond music Nyege Nyege festival offers immersive art installations, workshops, film screenings, fashion showcases, talks and performances.

About Jinja City

Jinja City, often called the Source of the River Nile, is Uganda’s adventure capital.

Located about two to three hours’ drive east of Kampala City, the Uganda adventure city of Jinja sits at the point where Lake Victoria (Africa’s largest lake and the world’s second-largest freshwater lake by surface area) becomes the River Nile.

The White Nile in Jinja City, Eastern Uganda, serves as the historic outflow of Lake Victoria and has earned international fame as the undisputed adrenaline capital of East Africa.

Jinja City, Uganda is world-famous as the historic Source of the River Nile, where the world’s longest river, the Mighty Nile River, exits Lake Victoria to begin its 6,600-kilometre journey north to the Mediterranean Sea.

Holiday and leisure visitors come to Jinja City for white-water rafting, bungee jumping, kayaking, boat cruises, nature walks and the vibrant local culture.

Jinja City serves as the natural gateway to Kalagala Falls and has long been the spiritual and logistical home of Nyege Nyege Festival.

About the Busoga Region – The Host

The wider Busoga region, of which Jinja City is the historic and cultural heart, is one of Uganda’s most significant cultural and economic zones.

Known for its rich traditions, the powerful Busoga Kingdom, fertile landscapes and the life-giving Nile, Busoga provides the authentic Ugandan backdrop for the festival.

Local communities around Kayunga and Kangulumira towns benefit directly through hospitality, guiding, food vending and cultural performances, turning Nyege Nyege into a true community-linked tourism event.
