Uganda is intensifying its efforts to attract more visitors from North America with a high-profile Uganda Familiarization Trip for leading Canadian tour operators, travel agents, and media personalities.

Organised by the Uganda High Commission in Canada in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities and the private sector, this visit represents one of the country’s strongest pushes yet to grow the Canadian market.
The delegation was officially received by Ambassador Allan Kajik, Charge’ D’Affaires at the Uganda High Commission in Ottawa.
He noted the impressive growth in Canadian visitors, from 3,900 in 2023 to 9,688 in 2025 and expressed confidence in reaching a target of 20,000 Canadian tourists in the coming years.
Highlights of the Uganda Familiarization Trip
The itinerary showcases Uganda’s greatest tourism attractions, starting in Kampala with cultural experiences at:
- Namugongo Martyrs Shrines
- Gaddafi National Mosque
- Kasubi Tombs, a UNESCO World Heritage Site

The group then heads southwest for the centrepiece of the trip, mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to nearly half the world’s remaining mountain gorillas.
Additional experiences include the Batwa cultural trail and traditional campfire entertainment.
Other major stops include:
- Queen Elizabeth National Park: Sunrise game drive and a 4-hour boat cruise on the iconic Kazinga Channel
- Kibale National Park: Chimpanzee trekking and visit to the Sempaya Hot Springs
- Jinja: Adventure activities at the Source of the Nile, including boat cruises and Nile tubing
The trip concludes on April 18th, 2026 with a visit to the Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre in Entebbe.
Permanent Secretary Doreen Katusiime described Uganda as one of the world’s most extraordinary destinations, while delegation spokesperson Lucas Aykroyd expressed appreciation for the opportunity to experience the country firsthand.

Why This Matters for Uganda Tourism
By hosting influential travel professionals and media directly in the country, Uganda is creating powerful advocates who can authentically promote the “Pearl of Africa” to the Canadian and broader North American market.
This personal advocacy is expected to generate strong media coverage and increased bookings in the months ahead.
