Enhancing Uganda’s Tourism with “Run for Birds” and Exciting Water-Based Adventures

As Uganda gears up for the innovative “Run for Birds” event on October 19th, 2025, organized by Avian Conservation Uganda, the country is poised to elevate its tourism landscape with a fusion of sports tourism, conservation, and thrilling water-based experiences.

This Kampala marathon, aiming to raise 25,000 UGX for a national bird conservation campaign, coincides with an exciting array of boat tour options, Lake Victoria fishing trips, and birdwatching safaris, cementing Uganda’s status as a premier eco-tourism destination.

“Run for Birds”: A Catalyst for Conservation and Sports Tourism

The “Run for Birds” event features a scenic route through Kampala, including landmarks like the Fairway Golf Course, blending sports tourism with a mission to protect Uganda’s over 1,070 bird species.

Proceeds will support awareness campaigns highlighting birds’ critical ecosystem roles, such as pest control and seed dispersal, as backed by recent ecological research.

This event invites global participants to run for a cause while exploring Uganda’s vibrant capital.

Boat Tours and Lake Victoria Fishing Trips

Beyond the marathon, Uganda’s tourism offerings expand to the shimmering waters of Lake Victoria. Adventure seekers can embark on boat tours to Ngamba Island, the home to rescued chimpanzees, and sunset cruises along the equator.

For fishing enthusiasts, Lake Victoria fishing trips provide an opportunity to reel in the world’s largest freshwater game fish, the Nile Perch, with our half-day or multi-day trips departing from Entebbe.

These trips, lasting 30 to 45 minutes to prime fishing spots, include modern boats equipped with safety gear and expert guides, catering to groups of all sizes.

Birdwatching Safaris from Kampala

Complementing these aquatic adventures, birdwatching safaris from Kampala offer a front-row seat to Uganda’s avian diversity.

Travelers can join guided tours to Mabamba Bay Wetland Swamp Tour or Shoebill watching tour from Entebbe, where the rare Shoebill stork and other species like the Papyrus Gonolek thrive.

These safaris, accessible within an hour from Kampala, are part of Uganda safari holiday packages that also include visits to Uganda Wildlife Parks such as Queen Elizabeth and Murchison Falls National Parks, renowned for over 600 bird species and diverse wildlife.

Kampala City Tours and Accommodations

After a day of adventure, Kampala city tours provide a cultural contrast with bustling markets and historic sites, while Kampala Hotels, ranging from luxury lodges to cozy guesthouses, offer comfortable stays.

These accommodations serve as ideal bases for exploring both urban and natural attractions, enhancing the overall travel experience.

Managed by the Uganda Wildlife Authority across 10 national parks, Uganda’s tourism sector is booming.

The “Run for Birds” event, alongside boat tour, Lake Victoria fishing trips, and birdwatching safaris, underscores this growth, attracting eco-conscious travelers.

With packages combining these activities, Uganda is set to shine as a multifaceted destination in 2025.
