The countdown is on for the Global Youth Festival 2025, set to take place from December 12th – 14th in the breathtaking Albertine Rift Region of Uganda.
This three-day event, announced by Herbert Byaruhanga (@Herbertbirder) on X, invites young nature lovers, climate advocates, storytellers, and explorers from around the world to engage in a movement for nature conservation in one of Africa’s richest biodiversity hotspots.
The Albertine Rift, recognized by Conservation International as a global biodiversity hotspot, hosts 41 endemic bird species and more threatened species than any other region in Africa.

The Global Youth Festival promises an exciting lineup, including gorilla tracking, conservation seminars, nature excursions, talk shows, campfire storytelling, and entertainment.
A highlight is the opportunity to support the critically endangered mountain gorilla population, which has grown from 620 gorillas in 1989 to over 1,000 gorillas by 2018 due to dedicated conservation efforts, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
Scheduled during Uganda’s dry season, the event ensures optimal conditions for wildlife visibility and outdoor activities, making it an ideal time for global youth to connect with nature.
This aligns with a growing trend of youth-led environmental action, with a 2023 United Nations report revealing that 68% of global youth prioritize climate and conservation issues.

The festival’s call to action is clear; “Empower the next generation to become custodians of the planet.” With registrations now open, young eco-warriors are encouraged to join this transformative experience.
