Uganda Named Among Top 6 Travel Destinations by Forbes Travel Guide

As of 01 October 2020, Uganda re-opened its boarders and the Entebbe Airport for international visitors.  With the Coronavirus pandemic swaying through various countries this year, tourism has become an almost dreaded activity with travel stringent restrictions instated at major airports.

Few days into the reopening of the East Africa country, Forbes Travel Guide, an American luxury travel magazine has ranked Uganda amongst the Top Six Travel destinations to travel to and visit in the month of October.

Uganda welcomes all visitors to its wildlife parks and attractions while observing guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19

Entry requirements: negative test within 72 hours of arrival AND a negative test before departure as well. Uganda is unusual in requiring a COVID test before leaving the country.

That test needs to happen no more than 120 hours before departure. Keep in mind also that there is a national curfew between 9pm and 6am, though if you have a flight between those hours you are permitted to go to/from the airport.

Current COVID-19 trend: relatively okay. Uganda’s case count was on the rise through September but in absolute terms their outbreak has been reasonably small with just under 9,000 cases so far and 81 deaths.

So far only 13 airlines have resumed flights to Uganda main airport of Entebbe including Brussels airlines, Turkish, RwandAir, Ethiopian Airlines, Emirates, Tarco Air, and FlyDubai, Kenya Airways etcetera..

The other countries that were included on Forbes safe travel destinations include: Panama in Central America, El Salvado in North America, Pakistan in Southern Asia, Ukraine in Eastern Europe and finally Bahamas in North America.

Where else in Africa is open?

These additions join a growing list of destinations in Africa that are open to most visitors, including:

  • Morocco
  • Maldives
  • Ghana
  • Tanzania
  • Kenya
  • Egypt
  • Rwanda

The news on the recognition by the prestigious Forbes Travel Guide is welcomed by Uganda’s hospitality owners and tour operators as it helps to promote the destination smooth recovery of tourism.

Tourism is slowly but surely returning to normal in Uganda after the East African state opened its skies and territorial borders for both regional and global holidaymakers early this month.
