Uganda’s Private Sector Dialogue Signals Bold Economic Future at Protea Hotel Kampala

The Association of Uganda Tour Operators (AUTO), marking its 30th anniversary, hosted a high-profile private sector national post-budget dialogue at Protea Hotel Kampala on 16th June, 2025.

The event, themed “Unlocking Investment Opportunities through Commercial Agriculture, Industrialization, Digital Transformation, and Market Expansion,” aligns with the recently unveiled 2025/2026 national budget, which allocates Shs 1.86 trillion to agro-industrialization and highlights a 13.1% growth in tourism earnings to USD 1.52 billion.

The dialogue brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders to explore how Uganda can leverage its rich agricultural potential, bolster industrial growth, and harness digital innovation to fully monetize its economy.

Key discussions included strategies to address broadband and regulatory challenges in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), as outlined in Uganda’s Digital Transformation Roadmap under Vision 2040, and proposals for sustainable tourism development, echoing recent commitments by the Uganda Wildlife Authority to support concessionaires in protected areas.

This event marks a surprising yet strategic shift for Association of Uganda Tour Operators (AUTO), traditionally focused on tourism promotion, toward broader economic investment dialogues.

With Uganda’s tourism sector thriving, supported by peace, infrastructure investments like Uganda Airlines, and initiatives such as mountain gorilla trekking and eco-tours, experts see this as a pivotal moment to integrate tourism with national economic goals.
