The Uganda Tourism Board short for UTB (the national body responsible for promoting Uganda as a top tourism destination) officially launched its National Marketing Strategy for the tourism sector on the 15th May, 2025, setting an ambitious goal to elevate Uganda’s position on the global tourism map.
The Uganda Marketing Strategy launch event, held on May 15th, 2025, showcased the East African country’s commitment to sustainable growth, with a target to boost tourism revenue to $5 billion by 2028/29, as part of Uganda’s Fourth National Development Plan.

The new national marketing strategy for Uganda, covering 2024/25–2028/29, focuses on key tourism source markets, including
- International leisure travelers,
- Domestic tourists, and the
- MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) sector.
With tourism currently contributing 5.5% to Uganda’s GDP and supporting 750,000 jobs, the plan aims to address Uganda’s low global brand visibility – ranked 112th worldwide and 12th in Africa, through innovative digital marketing and AI-driven campaigns to attract high-value visitors.

Tourist arrivals in Uganda have already shown promising growth, rising from 814,000 in 2022 to 1.27 million in 2023, and this strategy is poised to accelerate that momentum.
Images from the Uganda Marketing Strategy launch event captured the enthusiasm, with tourism board officials addressing a packed room of stakeholders, seated at elegantly set tables, and speaking at a podium branded with the Uganda Tourism Board’s vibrant colors.
The backdrop proudly displayed “Uganda Tourism Board” alongside the tagline “Explore Uganda – The Pearl of Africa,” setting the tone for a transformative era in the sector.

The timing couldn’t be more critical as Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo 2025 was approaching, an event which was expected to draw global attention to Uganda’s natural wonders like the Rwenzori Mountains, Uganda’s rich biodiversity, and her cultural heritage.
The Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo also emphasized sustainable tourism practices, investor protection, and the economic benefits of tourism, aligning perfectly with the goals of the new marketing strategy. Stakeholders, including hotels, tour operators, and digital service providers, leveraged this opportunity to connect, network, and showcase their offerings to an international audience.

For hospitality businesses in Uganda, this is a pivotal moment to align with Uganda’s tourism ambitions.
The strategy’s focus on digital innovation and sustainable growth opens doors for hotels to enhance their online presence, target high-value visitors, and drive direct bookings.
