5th Uganda-UAE Business Forum

5th UAE-Uganda Business Forum Opens New Doors for Responsible Tourism and Hospitality Investment in Uganda

As the 5th UAE-Uganda Business Forum concludes its four-day programme across Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah and Fujairah (26th to 29th October 2026), Uganda is positioning itself as a prime destination for long-term investment in tourism and hospitality.

Organised by the Embassy of Uganda in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General in Dubai, the forum has brought together government officials, investors, business leaders and strategic partners with a clear focus on turning growing economic ties into concrete deals.

Bilateral trade between Uganda and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) reached US$4.7 billion in 2025, rising sharply from US$2.7 billion in 2024 and just US$600 million in 2018.

United Arab Emirates (UAE) foreign direct investment in Uganda has similarly expanded from approximately US$300 million in 2018 to US$3.5 billion in 2025.

More than 150,000 Ugandans were living and working in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in 2025, underscoring the depth of people-to-people and commercial links.

Tourism and hospitality feature prominently among the ten priority sectors showcased at the forum, alongside agriculture, agro-processing, minerals, infrastructure, energy, logistics, manufacturing, finance and technology.

Uganda’s tourism sector itself generated around US$1.62 billion in 2025, demonstrating its established contribution to the economy and its readiness for further growth through partnerships in accommodation, visitor services and market connections.

For tour operators committed to responsible tourism, the timing is significant. Increased investment can support the development of low-impact lodges, community-based experiences, improved infrastructure that respects natural habitats, and stronger market linkages that bring more high-value, conscious travellers from the Gulf and beyond.

Uganda continues to offer world-class experiences, from mountain gorilla trekking in in Bwindi Impenetrable and Mgahinga Gorilla National Parks, chimpanzee tracking in Kibale National Park to wildlife safaris, cultural encounters and adventure activities, while responsible operators prioritise local employment, community benefit and environmental stewardship.

Ambassador Zaake Wanume Kibedi and other Ugandan officials have stressed that the success of the forum should be measured by contracts signed, investments secured, partnerships formed and jobs created rather than meetings alone.

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda, Robinah Nabbanja has similarly encouraged well-prepared investment proposals in tourism and related sectors.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) serves as a strategic gateway to the wider Gulf region.

Stronger commercial ties can expand awareness of Uganda as a premium, authentic African destination among travellers seeking meaningful, sustainable experiences.

At the same time, targeted investment can help upgrade hospitality standards, expand eco-friendly accommodation options and create more skilled local jobs, outcomes that align directly with responsible tourism principles.

As the 5th UAE-Uganda Business Forum wraps up, the message from Kampala City is clear: Uganda is open for business, and tourism remains one of its most promising sectors for partners who value both commercial returns and positive impact.
