2nd Presidential CEO Run

Presidential CEO Run 2026 in Entebbe City: How a Charity Race Supports Special Needs Children and Responsible Tourism in Uganda

On a bright Sunday morning, 16th August 2026, hundreds of runners filled the roads around Coco Beach in Entebbe City for the second Presidential CEO Run.

Organised by the Presidential CEO Forum, the 5km charity race brought together residents, business leaders, and government officials under the theme “Saving a Life, Changing a Future.”

The event focused on a clear and meaningful goal: raising funds to improve facilities at Entebbe Children’s Welfare Primary School.

The school cares for approximately 200 children from less privileged backgrounds living with disabilities such as autism, Down syndrome, epilepsy, hearing impairments, and physical challenges.

Proceeds support the construction of much-needed storage, classroom, and accommodation space so these children can learn and grow in a better environment.

State Minister for Sports Peter Ogwang joined as a key participant and chief runner. On behalf of the Ministry of Education and Sports he contributed Shs 10 million and flagged off the race.

Local leaders, including Entebbe Mayor Fabrice Rulinda, also showed strong support. Participants paid for race kits, while corporate sponsors and individual donations added further resources.

The run is now positioned to become an annual fixture that blends sport, corporate social responsibility, and community care.

From a responsible tourism perspective, the Presidential CEO Run stands out. Entebbe City serves as Uganda’s main international gateway and a popular base for travellers heading to the source of the Nile, lake shores, and nearby wildlife experiences.

Events like this demonstrate how the hospitality and tourism sector can actively contribute to local social development.

When visitors stay in Entebbe City hotels, dine at beachside restaurants, or join community activities, they become part of a wider ecosystem that can support inclusive education and better facilities for vulnerable children.

Responsible tourism is not only about protecting nature or reducing plastic. It also means supporting initiatives that strengthen the communities who host travellers.

The Presidential CEO Run shows a practical model: CEOs (Chief Executive officers) and corporates mobilise resources, government adds weight, residents participate, and the benefits reach children who need better learning environments.

Hotels and tourism businesses in Entebbe City that provided meals or other support further illustrated how the sector can align commercial activity with social impact.

As Uganda continues to grow its tourism profile, community-centred events like the Presidential CEO Run offer visitors authentic stories and meaningful ways to engage beyond standard sightseeing.

Travellers interested in sustainable and responsible experiences can look for opportunities that connect them with local causes, school visits (where appropriate and arranged), or simply choose tour operators who prioritise community benefit.

The second edition of the run has already shown strong potential. With ministry backing and plans to expand the initiative, future editions could attract even more participants and raise greater support for special-needs education in Entebbe and beyond.
